An evening with Shambhu DasShambhu Das is a classically trained Sitarist of the highest order. After receiving many years of personal instruction from the now legendary Pandit Ravi Shankar, Shambhu Das went on to begin his own career, receiving many accolades from the international press and his own time teaching and collaborating closely with many accomplished performers of Indian classical music.

Indian classical music is indivisible from the mythology and spiritual practice of India. Those who seek to become great maestros, therefore, must also embrace the philosophy of the subcontinent. Perhaps this is why, though many aspire, few accomplish the status of Pandit or Ustad, the highest honour a student of this music can attain. Coupled with this study of philosophy is the rigorous discipline imposed upon the disciple by his master, a discipline which many find too difficult to endure Shambu Das has been through it all and has come out with flying colors. He is in the Guinness Book of World Records for performing Sitar continuously for 24 hrs.

Shambhu Das has worked with George Harrison of Beatles who took lessons from shambhu and both put together a section of Indian music for Beatles album, . Shambhu's association with musicians of the western disciplines including Piano, Drum, Jazz, Flute, etc. opened him a new horizon in the world of music. By combining rhythms and melodies of Indian ragas and western music he created a unique type of Indo-jazz. Later Shambhu formed a group to fuse this type of music.?With the performance Shambhu put together the audience will experience calmness of sight and sound through the visual adventure and fusion melodies and find the peace within themselves. The group, through its music, shows the connection between Indian and Western worlds and the balance of the fusion between them. Indo-Jazz with its beauty and uniqueness will give the audience a different perspective on music and the possibilities within sounds and rhythms. Mr. Shambhu Das's performance will fill the audience with these emotions and encourage the unity of music cross culturally.

Dakshinaa brought the legendary Sitar Maestro and Guinness Book record holder Shambhu Das live in Chennai on 28th February 2008 at Malayalee Club Chennai. Shri N. Murali, Managing Director, The Hindu & President, Music Academy, Chennai Brahmasri. V. Dakshinamoorthy, Veteran Music Director Along with other dignitaries present.
