A nation's culture resides in the hearts and soul of its people. This is the thought of Mahatma Gandhi on culture. Awakening the thought, igniting the feel, keeping the tradition of culture alive, warming the hearts and inspiring the souls is DAKSHINAA, one of the leading socio- cultural and non profitable organization in Chennai.
Founded in the year 2005 by an enterprising team of professionals deeply rooted to Indian culture and traditions, DAKSHINAA is today the nerve center of cultural initiatives that keep the flames of Indian heritage, glittering.
It is an umbrella organization beyond the barriers of caste, creed, religion or language, guiding and supporting the needy in social, cultural and educational fields cherishing their noble ideas and nourishing their ideals and aspirations.
Dakshinaa has divided its operations into seven centers – Saptha Sahaaya Hasta. ‘Saptha’ is an inspiration derived from a significant number in Indian culture. It means Seven. Saptha Puri denotes to Seven Holy Pilgrimage Centres in India. Saptha Rishis refer to the Seven Sages who composed the Vedic hymns. Saptha Padi is the Seven Steps which signifies the Seven Vows of marriage. Then there is the Sapthaswaras, the Seven Notes in Indian music.

Dakshinaa organizes socio-cultural events at regular intervals.
Reputed intellectuals like T.J.S. George, M.V. Devan, Dr. B. Ekbal, C.R. Parameswaran, M.P. Veerendrakumar and many more names of repute have shared the platforms.

- 'Bharathi Sandhya' - Bharatanatyam event featuring actress Jayabharathi.
- Prathibha Yathra - Reception and Awards to Kala Prathibhas -Young ones who have won prizes and honours in Kerala State level School Kalolsava.
- Documentary and short film festival titled 'Exposure the mind lense magic', every year.
- Solo performance - 'In search of peace' an interactive session with Shri. Shambhu Das, world renowned Sitarist and Guinness Book of world record holder.
- Publication of the book 'Dhyaanamanikal' a collection of Malayalam poems written by Sri. Melur Damodaran.
- A mega event 'Ragam Sudarshanam' - A musical night of Rafi songs by the great singer Anil Bajpai along with celebrity singers, in aid of "Light for a thousand eyes" a joint venture project with 'Sankara Nethralaya' to have free cataract surgeries for a thousand poor and needy.
- "Guru Dakshina", a great vision and a meaningful mission accomplished - a great moment to honour the retired Malayalam Teachers from Universities, Colleges and Schools of Tamilnadu who have spent their whole life for the development of Malayalam Language and Literature. This annual event was introduced in the year 2008 when Dr. P.C. Alexander, former Governer of Tamil Nadu & Maharashtra was the chief Guest on the occasion to offer Dakshina to the Teachers. This programme continues every year.
- Bhaskaran Smruthy – an event organized to commemorate the third death anniversary of Kerala's beloved poet, lyricist, film maker and Director P. Bhaskaran on 21-2-2010. Eminent literary vizards like O.N.V. Kurup, M.T. Vasudevan Nair, V. Madhusudanan Nair, Paul Zachariah, Balachandran Chullikkad, V.K. Sriraman, Alangode Leeakrishnan, etc decorated the dais with their presence.
- Classical Malayalam Chennai Sangamam, a summit to echo the sentiments of Chennai Malayalees and declare solidarity towards the great goal of obtaining Classical Status to Malayalam Language was organised on December 18, 2010. Literary personalities like Dr. Puthussery Ramachandran, Dr, Naduvattom Gopalakrishnan, Dr. Iravatham Mahadevan, Dr. Unnikkidavu, Dr. N. Gopinathan nair, shri. P. shashikumar, etc. participated
- Bhashaacharaya Award to honour great contributors to Malayalam language and linguistics was instituted in the year 2010. The first recipient was Dr. K. Unnikidavu of Presidency college, Chennai (Retd.) for the year 2010. It was Prof. N.R. Gopinathan Pillai of University of Kerala (Retd.)who received this award for the year 2011.
